Happy New Year!!! I hope you all had a lovely festive break! Over the Christmas holidays, I ventured into my studio and tried dipping my work in glaze, rather than spraying it, for the very first time! I decided to try this first with clear glaze, as I find it very forgiving and wanted to … Continue reading Dipping glazes makes me HAPPY!!
Just a super speedy update: Over this Christmas holiday I'll be glazing some baby trugs and some small coloured slip tests with a clear glaze. "What's so special about that?", I hear you cry! Well, this this the first time EVER that I'll be 'dipping' my tricky trug shape in the glaze, instead of spraying … Continue reading Dipping glazes and slip experiments coming soon….
My goodness it's been a very busy few months! Casting, fettling, glazing, making handles, i've been up to my eyeballs in water, dust (don't worry, I wear a fancy mask!), slip, glaze, alumina, rain, mud and tea, but it's all been worth it! FINALLY, my glazes are coming out well and my ceramic and woodwork … Continue reading October Update!!
Good news: I am still working hard in my studio, casting, firing and glazing and I have spent the last few months honing the colour of my glaze so it is juuuust right. I now have a fixed recipe and can achieve the beautiful slate-blue colour that I love. Bad news: The glaze just won't settle … Continue reading Glazing agony!
How has it been TWO MONTHS since I last wrote on here??? Well, I've been busy and, thanks to my wonderful father, now have a kiln that works! I have been working hard, casting and fettling, and now have a little collection of trugs drying in my shedio, I still have a few more to go until I'll be able to fill the kiln at the NCCD, but I think it's about time I booked my first firing! I can't believe the amount … Continue reading March Update
I now have a finished small trug mould drying on my parents’ dining room table… their little dehumidifier is working overtime to dry it out - what a trooper! Once the mould is dry, I'm going to start casting.... I'll have pieces soon!!
Well, it’s been a little while since I blogged last… 59 days exactly… but you’ll be happy to hear that I haven’t been blogging because I’ve been busy drawing, measuring, sawing, sanding, filing, drilling, screwing, going wrong, re-drawing, re-measuring, re-sawing, re-sanding, re-filing, re-drilling, re-screwing, setting, plastering, surforming, scraping, carving aaaaaand polishing away, so I now … Continue reading I’ve been busy!
Great news - I have found a kiln that I can rent! I am extremely lucky that The National Centre for Craft and Design in Sleaford, Lincolnshire, has a kiln they are willing to let me use! They haven't rented their kiln out before, so it's a new experience for us both. I am so grateful to … Continue reading Firings in my future!!
